Warriors Explode for Eight Runs in 10th, Eliminate Parkland at NJCAA World Series

ENID, Okla. — East Central Community College erupted for eight runs in the top of the 10th inning Monday night to defeat Parkland College 18-11 at David Allen Memorial Ballpark and stay alive in the NJCAA Division II World Series.

After Parkland took a 10-9 lead in the bottom of the seventh, the Warriors kept the Cobras off the board in the eighth and ninth innings before their explosive extra-inning rally.

Pablo Roque highlighted the 10th inning with a three-run triple that scored Briceton Johnson, Mason Hickman and Ryan Nelson to give East Central a 12-10 advantage. Xavier Myles followed with an RBI single before Luke Williams delivered a three-run double later in the inning. Ryan Nelson added another RBI single as the Warriors sent 13 batters to the plate in the frame.

East Central erased an early 4-0 deficit in the third inning when Mason Hickman lined a two-run single and Briceton Johnson followed with a game-tying two-run home run.

The Warriors added two runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to move ahead 8-7 before Parkland answered with two unearned runs in the sixth and another unearned run in the seventh.

Brant Melancon earned the win in relief, allowing one run on two hits while striking out seven over the final 3.2 innings.

Roque finished 2-for-4 with a double, triple and three RBIs, while Nelson went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Luke Williams added a three-run double in the 10th inning, and Johnson homered and drove in two runs.

East Central improved to 48-14 with the victory, while Parkland finished its season 41-21.

The Warriors will face South Mountain Community College today at 1 p.m. in Enid, Oklahoma.
