ECCC golf enters 2025 season with fresh talent, high goals under Coach Matthew Perry

DECATUR, Miss. — With a roster full of newcomers, the East Central Community College golf team enters the 2025 season aiming to blend young talent with international and transfer experience.

Head coach Matthew Perry said he's encouraged by the potential of this year's squad.
"Having so many freshmen, everything is new to them and they're being introduced to college golf," Perry said. "I think so far we have a very talented group."

The Warriors' roster features standout newcomer Sam Arthur, an international player from Cambridge, England, who has found success on the amateur circuit. Perry also added transfer sophomore Harvey Underwood, who brings experience and maturity from McLennan Community College in Waco, Texas.

Perry said one of the biggest challenges will be helping his international players adjust.
"Learning American college golf is different from the norm in Europe," he said. "But we've got a really good group of Mississippi guys who have played at a high level in the state, and they can help lead the rest of the group."

The Warriors are setting their goals high for the 2025 campaign.
"Finishing in the top three in the state would put us in a good position to have repeat success at the national tournament," Perry said. "A big goal would be getting back to Plymouth, Indiana, for nationals."
