ECCC Finishes Year With Personal Bests, Nine National Cuts

East Central Community College Swim closed out the 2025 calendar year with strong performances in the pool as sophomore swimmer Owen Elliott recorded multiple personal bests and earned nine qualifying cuts for the NJCAA National Championships.

Elliott opened the season with a lifetime-best time in the 50-yard backstroke at the Fall Cross Divisional hosted by the University of West Florida. He continued his strong fall campaign in November, setting personal bests in both the 50-yard and 100-yard breaststroke during the William Carey vs. Thomas meet.

Elliott capped the semester with another career-best swim in the 500-yard freestyle at the DSU Holiday Invite on Dec. 19.

In addition to his personal records, Elliott qualified for the NJCAA National Championships in nine events: the 50-, 100-, 500- and 1,000-yard freestyle; the 50- and 100-yard breaststroke; the 50- and 100-yard butterfly; and the 50-yard backstroke.

NJCAA rules allow each swimmer to compete in a maximum of four individual events at the national meet, setting the stage for an important spring semester as Elliott and the ECCC coaching staff determine his strongest lineup.

The NJCAA National Championships will be held March 4–7 at Indian River State College in Fort Pierce, Florida. ECCC's next competition is scheduled for Jan. 17 at William Carey.

Already back in the pool for winter training, Elliott said he is "excited for a fresh start and new challenges."
