ECCC’s Elliott Breaks Four Records at NJCAA National Championships

FORT PIERCE, Fla. — East Central Community College swimmer Owen Elliott delivered a record-setting performance March 4–7 at the NJCAA National Championships, breaking four program records while posting multiple lifetime-best swims and qualifying for a finals race.

The national meet, hosted by Indian River State College, featured competition from programs across the country. Elliott competed in the 1,000-yard freestyle, 50-yard backstroke, 500-yard freestyle and 50-yard butterfly.

In each event, Elliott improved his time and established a new East Central program record. His most dramatic improvement came in the 1,000-yard freestyle, where he cut 36 seconds from his previous best.

Elliott also recorded lifetime-best times in the 500-yard freestyle and the 50-yard backstroke during the meet.

Despite strong competition, Elliott climbed the rankings in multiple events and qualified for the finals in the 1,000-yard freestyle, finishing 15th overall.

On the final day of competition, Elliott delivered another impressive performance in the 50-yard butterfly. Minutes before the race, his swim cap tore, but Elliott remained composed and competed with the damaged cap. He still managed to cut 0.8 seconds from his time, a significant improvement in a sprint event.

East Central's overall team score finished tied with other Mississippi community colleges despite those programs entering multiple male swimmers.

Head coach Bryan Olmstead praised Elliott's effort throughout the championship meet.

"Owen truly swam with all his might," Olmstead said. "He gave it everything he had."

The performance marked one of the strongest meets of Elliott's career as he closed out his final season representing East Central.
