Warriors Use Early Offense, Strong Pitching to Sweep Gulf Coast

DECATUR, Miss. — The East Central Community College softball team earned a doubleheader sweep over Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College on Wednesday afternoon at the Softball Complex, taking Game 1 by a 6-3 score before securing a 4-2 win in the nightcap.

East Central came out aggressive in Game 1, scoring three runs in the opening inning to take early control. The Warriors continued to apply pressure at the plate, stringing together quality at-bats and forcing Mississippi Gulf Coast into difficult situations.

The Bulldogs answered with two runs in the first inning, but East Central remained composed and regained momentum in the middle innings. The Warriors added two runs in the fourth inning to extend the lead before tacking on another run late for insurance.

Lanayah Henry led the way for East Central and was named Player of the Game, delivering key hits and producing in clutch moments to help pace the offense. Madye Bath and Maleigh Lemings also contributed at the plate, while Brette Loftin and Lynley Blackwell helped keep innings alive with disciplined at-bats.

In the circle, Lynleigh Burt and the rest of the East Central pitching worked efficiently, limiting Mississippi Gulf Coast's opportunities and preventing any sustained rally. The Warriors' defense backed them up with a clean performance to secure the 6-3 victory.

East Central carried that momentum into Game 2, where the Warriors once again responded in key moments to complete the sweep with a 4-2 win.

Mississippi Gulf Coast struck early, but East Central answered in the first inning to even the score. Both teams settled in over the next few innings before the Warriors broke through with a go-ahead rally in the middle frames.

Riley Ruple helped spark the offense at the top of the lineup, while Bath and Lynley Blackwell delivered timely at-bats to push runs across. Rylei Pickerell and Loftin also played key roles in generating offense as East Central capitalized on scoring chances.

Ava Mosley earned Player of the Game honors in the second contest, delivering a strong and composed performance that helped the Warriors control the game. Each time Mississippi Gulf Coast threatened, Mosley and the defense responded with key outs to maintain the lead.

The Bulldogs mounted a late push, but East Central held firm down the stretch to secure the win.

Across both games, East Central showed consistency and execution, using early offense, timely hitting, and strong pitching performances from the to complete the sweep on their home field.
