DECATUR, Miss. — The East Central Community College softball team swept a home doubleheader against Coahoma Community College on Saturday at the Mound in Decatur, opening with a 20-4 run-rule victory before closing the afternoon with a 7-3 win in game two.
Game One: East Central 20, Coahoma 4
East Central wasted no time, plating five runs in the first inning and never looking back en route to a run-rule victory. The Warriors finished with 16 hits and 20 runs, with four players going deep. Madye Bath led the offense, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, a home run and four RBIs. Maleigh Lemings matched her production, going 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs, while Lanayah Henry went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple and three RBIs.
Brette Loftin added a home run and two RBIs, Lynley Blackwell drove in two and Lyric Lay reached base twice and drove in a pair as well. Kathryn Montz capped the offensive display with a home run and an RBI.
Neely Wolverton started in the circle for East Central and recorded the win.
Game Two: East Central 7, Coahoma 3
In the nightcap, East Central built an early lead and held off a Coahoma rally to secure the sweep. The Warriors totaled six hits, with Riley Ruple going 3-for-4 out of the leadoff spot and scoring once. Kathryn Montz provided the big blow with a home run and two RBIs, while Barcley Martinez added a triple and an RBI and Lyric Lay drove in two.
In the circle, Manda Rie Leach started and worked 2.2 innings before Ava Mosley took over in relief, striking out nine of the 14 batters she faced across 4.1 innings to close out the victory.
East Central combined for 22 hits and 27 runs across both games while holding Coahoma to a combined seven runs.
