ECCC Women’s Basketball Falls to No. 4 Shelton State in Home Opener

The East Central Community College women's basketball team led No. 4 nationally ranked Shelton State Community College 46-44 at halftime before falling 88-76 in the Lady Warriors' home opener Monday, Nov. 7, in Brackeen-Wood Gymnasium in Decatur.

The Lady Warriors trailed 32-22 after one quarter, but were able to close the deficit to 44-41 with two minutes to play in the second quarter before scoring the final five points of the first half. 

Shelton State regained the lead in the third quarter, but ECCC only trailed by one going into the fourth, 65-64.

Sophomore point guard Shadejha Brown out of Lake High School led East Central in scoring with 19 points. She also had four assists. Freshman guard Khelsea Foster, a product of Arcadia (La.) High School, added 18 points as well as nine rebounds, four steals and a block. Laneisha Jeans from Pine Forest High School (Pensacola, Fla.) and Curtisha Coleman of Wayne County High School had 11 points each. Freshman forward Autumn Taylor of Newton High School also had nine rebounds and added nine points for the Lady Warriors. 

East Central is dropped to 1-1 on the season, while Shelton State improved to 3-0. 

The Lady Warriors are back in action at home against East Mississippi Community College on Thursday, Nov. 10. Tipoff is 5:30 p.m.
