Warriors win first two home matches, set records at Founders Gymnasium

DECATUR, Miss. — East Central Community College volleyball collected its first two home wins in program history this week, defeating Northwest Shoals and Meridian inside Founders Gymnasium on Community Bank Court.

The Warriors opened at home Monday with a 3-1 victory over Northwest Shoals, taking the first set 25-21 and closing the match 25-23 in the fourth. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held before the match to celebrate the opening of the new facility. Emily Truan led the defense with 27 digs, while Ainslee Copeland finished with 13 kills and Riley Tosseng added six kills and 16 digs.

ECCC returned Wednesday and battled past Meridian in five sets, winning 25-15, 22-25, 21-25, 25-23, 15-12. The match produced three new program records: Copeland with 22 kills, Truan with 35 digs, and Anna Wojtczak with 43 assists, which tied her own record set earlier this season. Dixie Nance and Riley Tosseng each added eight kills as the Warriors held off Meridian's late push.

Through two home matches, the Warriors have combined for 199 digs and currently rank fifth in the nation in digs per set.

ECCC continues its inaugural season next week with a road match against the Northwest Mississippi Community College Rangers.
