East Central Bats Explode in Doubleheader Sweep of Holmes

DECATUR, Miss. — East Central Community College swept Holmes Community College in a doubleheader Friday at home, winning the opener 17-4 before closing out the day with a 12-1 victory.

Game 1: East Central 17, Holmes 4

The Warriors wasted little time taking control, as Holmes grabbed an early 4-2 lead after the first inning, but East Central responded with a 10-run third inning to seize command and never looked back.

Ryan Nelson was the offensive catalyst, going 2-for-2 with a home run and a sacrifice, driving in five runs. Davin Lowery went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs, while Jacob Wooten added two hits, two runs and two RBIs. Mason Hickman doubled and drove in a run, and Briceton Johnson doubled and knocked in two. Sawyer Bates came off the bench to contribute a hit and two RBIs.

On the mound, Jack Bradberry earned the win, improving to 3-0 after throwing 3 1/3 scoreless innings, striking out five while allowing just one hit. Luke Williams followed with two perfect innings, fanning three, and Wyatt Ford closed things out with a scoreless frame.

Holmes starter Lane Robertson took the loss, falling to 2-1 after allowing eight runs on seven hits in two innings.

Wes Bishop hit a solo home run for Holmes in a losing effort.

Game 2: East Central 12, Holmes 1

East Central kept rolling in the nightcap, erupting for six runs in the third inning and three more in the fourth to put the game away early.

Wooten was again a standout, going 2-for-4 with two home runs and four RBIs. Kaden Pagett came through with a pinch-hit three-run home run, and Hickman went 2-for-3 with a double. Briceton Johnson drove in a run and stole four bases, while Pablo Roque added an RBI and a stolen base.

Trae Winn earned the win on the mound, throwing four scoreless innings and striking out four to improve to 7-0 on the season. Landon Willis worked a scoreless fifth in relief.

Holmes starter Mac Griffin took the loss, dropping to 2-6.

East Central will look to build on the sweep as the Warriors continue their 2026 campaign.
